Japanese burnt cedar siding

my friend Scott has been documenting
some recent research on yakisugi

from his post:
Once the surface has been treated the wood requires no stains, sealers or other chemical treatments and is naturally resistant to insects.

Tree rounds floor

My friend Jake Gorst
(whose latest kickstarter you should check out)
recently commented on Alastair Gordon's remarkable floor.

There was a similar floor in part of Robert Motherwell's
Long Island studio, designed by Jean Prouvé,

and William Wurster used tree rounds as an exterior paver

villa leefdaal

Macken & Macken - Villa à Leefdaal  Arnaud De Moor from AlICe lab on Vimeo.

okay, this is in french,
but there are just so many cognates in architecture
that maybe you can bear with it and get the overall sense?
or just watch the spaces unfold and look
at the materials
and watch the graphic representations
of the relationships between the spaces.

grey glass wall

the grey glass wall is also great with the red pipe column.
fine white table too.
you'll never catch me staining oak dark, but it does add nice contrast.
