Sego Kitchen progress

The kitchen is nearly done here.
Fine-tuning the lights, and working on the punch list.
We'll be waiting on a few Miele appliances to finish it all out,
and there are a few remaining pieces of cabinetry still due in.

This shot shows the induction cooktop in action.

succulent shopping out on Hwy 92.
This space is beautiful, and they have a nice selection.

The corrugated plastic walls give a nice diffuse, even light to the whole space.

Community Advice posters by Susan O'Malley

Susan O'Malley
recently posted her
along Embarcadero Road in Palo Alto.

Simple but profound, they are the artifacts of her recent art piece at the the Palo Alto Art Center, in which she interviewed people about the advice they would give to their 8-year-old selves and their 80-year-old selves.

givers are the biggest winners

Maria Popova reviews
Give and Take: A Revolutionary Approach to Success,
by Adam Grant

"Givers, takers, and matchers all can— and do— achieve success.  But there’s something distinctive that happens when givers succeed: it spreads and cascades.  When takers win, there’s usually someone else who loses.  Research shows that people tend to envy successful takers and look for ways to knock them down a notch.  In contrast, when [givers] win, people are rooting for them and supporting them, rather than gunning for them.  Givers succeed in a way that creates a ripple effect, enhancing the success of people around them.  You’ll see that the difference lies in how giver success creates value, instead of just claiming it."

cult of done

Makerbot founder Bre Pettis's Cult of Done is not new
but I can't stop thinking about it.

"Laugh at perfection.
It's boring and keeps you from being done."

This is also pretty funny:

home as inhabitable sculpture

I do like the way the building has entire walls of glass,
framing the landscape in 3D.

"The use of raw concrete and formal expressiveness are directly linked with the Sculpture House project, begun in 1962 by architect Jacques Gillet, whose constructive principle and idea of intuitive creation challenge the aesthetics of postwar modernism and instead return to the ancient roots of human existence, nature and organic architecture."

"Most of the time we are not aware of what truly stimulates our spirit; it is intangible. KIMUA is a nod to memory, an interpretation of the reminiscences that once made us happy and that, having given them form, remain there forever, without fear of neglect or the passage of time…"

choices

Trust your own instinct.
Your mistakes might as well be your own, instead of someone else's.
